Eat Local This Labor Day

You are here: Home / Mind / Simple Living / Eat Local This Labor Day

This Labor Day weekend, let’s pay homage to those who labor for very little: Our local farmers.

Many farmers markets are open, so before heading out to the lake or picnic, consider stopping to pick up

  • locally baked buns
  • vegetables for a salad
  • corn on the cob from a farmstand
  • pie from the sweet elderly lady at the market
  • meat from the local butcher
  • fresh squeezed eggs for the leisurely breakfast

And, of course, microbrew and local wine to celebrate.

Not only will everything taste better, but you’ll be supporting your local farmers and economy.

Not sure where to start? Check out http://www.localharvest.org/

I love eating local! It’s also quite easy if you live in a bountiful area such as I do. Right now, the peaches to ripe and festivals are popping up all over the place. And of course, I’m always a big advocate of local Niagara Wines! One of the perks of living in Niagara!
