30 Days of Independent Blogging

Lake Michigan Shoreline
Lake Michigan Shoreline

Last Saturday, DH and I had a beautiful autumn motorcycle ride along the Shoreline Trail (Lake Michigan). One thing I love about riding is that I can completely clear my mind. I’m busy focusing on the road, the controls of the bike, watching out for potential danger, that I find myself relaxing and becoming one with the bike.

I found myself thinking about whether or not to continue to blog. I decided that I will continue it, but as a creative exercise. I am not going to worry about whether it is “food blog awesome” enough. I will probably write less about food and more about life. It was fun making some money when the stats were high, but I am at the point where I need this to be about me.

It’s actually kind of liberating, writing without regard to keywords or pinnableness (is that even a word?) or any other such nonsense.

So when the Ultimate Blog Challenge came across my inbox, I decided that this would be a great challenge for me to practice writing daily about whatever I want. To practice being free.

It’s taken me a couple of decades to get over the “shoulds.” I still suffer from it from time to time.

I want my writing to feel as free as when I’m riding my bike.  I want you to feel like that too. Thank you for joining the ride.

I want to be better at creating blog posts for me. I think I worry too much about what others think of my blog. But then that is what I do best, worry.

I loved reading this blog, thank you for deciding to continue to write and share. I agree with you, a blog is more interesting and fun to do if you’re not worried about a particular outcome. I think that comes across from the reader’s point of view too. It’s more interesting, engaging and enjoyable to read. So, thank you for sharing. You also made me feel a little envious. Not only have I always wanted to learn to ride a motorbike but been to scared after an accident as a pillion passenger eons ago, but also you live in what sounds like a beautiful part of the world to do it in.

    Hi Wendy
Great idea to not tie yourself to anything in particular, so much more freedom.
I look forward to reading more

GO FOR IT! This sounds great 🙂 Having a blog and being able to write about anything is such a great way to get everything off your chest. It’s a form of stress relief! If I had more time, I would definitely want to do this because I definitely carry a lot of stress in my shoulders!

Ahhh . . . I’ll bet you will enjoy the journey of blogging so much more now that you’ve released the pressure of “should”. Can’t wait to read more!
