Backyard Makeover with Kmart

You are here: Home / Other / gardening / Backyard Makeover with Kmart
May 13, 2011 by Wendy Hammond

I was so excited when Collective Bias asked me to do a backyard makeover with Kmart. See, my deck is in pretty bad shape.

My picnic table broke last summer, I forgot to bring my herb pots in last fall (resulting in some breakage of the ceramic pots), and the chairs we had been using were rusted through.

To make matters worse, we had a dead grill, a Budweiser chair & umbrella set that I won five years ago, and some firewood left from the winter.

As you can see, it was a sorry state of affairs. So when Collective Bias offered me a $300 budget to see what I could do, I was excited! I knew it wouldn’t go super far, even at Kmart, but I did have some things to work with from the screened in porch.

We had 4 of these chairs, and other chairs from the basement that would actually go better in this porch.

This is our tiki bar. I love the jungle feeling. That and the Moroccan nights makeover that was done by Skimbaco Home were my inspiration. With that in mind, I went shopping.

You can see photos of my shopping experience here:

Here’s what I purchased:

5 planters $31.95

2 loungers $143.98

side table $19.99

4 placemats $14.96

2 (2 pack) napkins $5.98

table $89.99

tax $18.41

total = $325.26.

Ready for the after?

I can’t wait to have a dinner party! Try to imagine herbs in the empty planters – I’ll be filling those in a couple of weeks when our frost date has passed 🙂

Across from the table, a cozy nook where DH and I can drink wine outside.

Doesn’t this look way better? Now if I can just figure out how to get on one of those HGTV shows so I can fix the rest of my yard  . . .

Thanks! Traditionally, Memorial Day is the date picked as when “all danger of frost has passed.” So I’ll be planting like mad that weekend!

Your new and improved deck looks great! I really like the loungers for sipping some wine outdoors. Now we just need it to warm up around here to we can actually enjoy being outside again 🙂
