Creating an Awesome Easter Basket – without Candy! #KmartEaster

You are here: Home / Mind / Simple Living / Creating an Awesome Easter Basket – without Candy! #KmartEaster
April 1, 2012 by Wendy Hammond

When most people think of Easter baskets, they think of candy. However, when Collective Bias asked me to see what I could do with $30 to create an Easter basket for my niece Elle, I enlisted her mom (my sister, the preschool teacher) for help.

Elle is three years old and loves fairies and princesses. To prepare for the shopping trip, I checked out the online Kmart circular and decided to sign up for the Shop Your Way Rewards card. I realized right away that $30 would go pretty far!

My sister and I met at Kmart to go shopping together. We had so much fun picking out things that Elle would like. You can see photos of our shopping trip here. We also reminisced about our Easters together when we were growing up. Our mom and dad always hid Easter baskets and chocolate candy eggs all over the house. We still get together on Easter for a big dinner. That made picking out the Easter basket items for Elle even more special. My how time flies!

Since Elle loves crafts, we were sure to check out the arts & crafts section in addition to the Easter section.

It seemed like everything was on sale, although I have to say it wasn’t marked very well. We decided to guesstimate and we came out pretty close! Here’s what we got:

  • Kite, $2.99
  • Plush Bunny, $4.99
  • 3 Rubber Ducks, $2.24
  • Hand Puppet, $2.99
  • Bucket, $3.99
  • Ink Pad Stamper, $2.24
  • Drawing Pad, $3.59
  • Markers, $9.99
  • March of Dimes Donation: $1.00

The total ended up $35.47 after saving $5 from the rewards card. We were pretty close, we knew the drawing pad would put us over but I wanted to get it for her since she was running low on paper. And who can say no to the March of Dimes?

Elle is a lucky little girl to have an aunt as thoughtful and loving as you are! Kmart is such a great place to shop for the holidays and their SYWR are awesome. I wish I still lived close to a Kmart! Thanks for sharing this and giving me some more Easter motivation!

Oh! What a nice thing to do for your niece. She must be very happy of all those toys and cute stuffs! Think I can do that for my kid as well. Gonna give her something she needs and what she wants. Thank you for sharing! 🙂

I love that you made a basket without candy! I only put one plastic egg with some M&M’s in my kids’ baskets, and the rest I wanted to have things they could play with or create with. You have some great choices in your neice’s basket.

And thanks so much for stopping by my post Wendy. We had an awesome time shopping at Kmart for Easter baskets.
