You are here: Home / Other / Uncategorized / Palm Sunday, and a Food & Faith Challenge Reminder
March 28, 2010 by Wendy Hammond

Today is Palm Sunday. Let us remember our calling and Christ’s journey.

Next week we’ll be starting the Food & Faith Challenge! A few announcements:

  1. There are two guest post spots remaining – on globalization and fair trade. Let me know if you’re interested!
  2. Please, as we go along in our journey we may encounter differences of opinion. I ask that you respect other people’s opinion, even if you do not share it. If anyone is disrespectful your comments will be deleted.
  3. To get our juices flowing, answer the following question in the comments below:

Have you ever thought about the acts of choosing food and eating as religious or spiritual acts? In what sense?

I absolutely think that choosing food is spiritual! After hearing about the horrors of factory farming for the first time, I immediately thought, “How can we do this to our fellow creatures?” After all, God himself teaches us to be compassionate and kind to all beings. Yet we painfully torture and slaughter billions of his creations each year. I know, with every ounce of my being, that this inhumane food system is not how he intended us to use his animals.

I’ve posted my thoughts on this topic in the past, if anyone is interested: http://www.powered-by-produce.com/category/religion/

We look to religion for guidance in so many other areas of our lives – why not eating? Thanks for bringing up this topic – it is certainly worth discussion!

Good question! Of course, I can’t help but see these things as related. Everything is connected… and the way we choose to treat our bodies (temples) is a huge indicator of our faith. What we choose to put into our bodies says something about who we are and what we value.
